London – a first at “TRUE” High-Resolution

Blom Aerofilms announces “TRUE” high-resolution imagery of London. Over the last few months, Blom Aerofilms has acquired a 4 cm resolution image dataset of Central London using a Vexcel UltraCam-D digital aerial survey camera. As the imagery was acquired from 1,500 ft and below, the dataset is the highest true resolution imagery available of the Capital, giving an unprecedented level of detail and clarity. The imagery is true resolution as it has not been resampled from medium resolution source data, so all of the pixels are real.

The imagery is available as controlled stereo pairs or as a final orthophoto product, available in all of the industry standard formats such as TIFF, ECW, MrSiD and JPEG2000. Infrared is also available.

Blom Aerofilms has also completed a 1966 historic orthophoto image of London providing a rich record of change across the city.

Data has been supplied to several private and public organisations and the combination of information has proved to be a valuable resource.

First complete oblique aerial photography library of the capital available

Blom Aerofilms has now taken their last photograph to complete the first oblique image library covering London. Comprising of 175,441 individual images and covering 2,319 sq km out to beyond the M25 motorway including Luton, Southend, Gatwick, Medway towns and Slough. The library provides a minimum of 12 geo-referenced images of each square metre of the Capital at a resolution of 15 cm, although specific locations will be available at 8 cm.

Despite numerous operational challenges with weather, operating altitudes and air traffic control, the acquisition was completed in 10 months and a total of more than 120 flying hours. The final images will be processed and available to users by the end of May and a number of datasets are being provided to London boroughs.

The full dataset for wide or partial area access will be available from the Blom Aerofilms website by June 2007, providing users with a variety of capabilities for property management, asset management, environmental assessment, intelligence and 3D modelling. The data can be viewed and integrated with GIS data through a variety of plug-ins for all major vendors and 3D models may be created through Pictometry desktop 3D solution, enabling the user to create their own 3D datasets.

This dataset is now complete and available, and has already been used for several imaginative solutions.
